Overview
This methodology paper documents the data sources, measurement windows, calculation formulas, and anonymization protocols behind every Medonix research publication. It is intended for researchers, journalists, and practice CFOs who want to audit the numbers we publish.
The paper covers four areas: (1) the production-data cohort and how a practice qualifies for inclusion, (2) the survey-research panel and respondent qualification, (3) the formula behind every published KPI (clean-claim rate, A/R days, denial rate, appeal-overturn rate, etc.), and (4) the anonymization controls that allow us to publish at this granularity under HIPAA.
We update this paper at the start of each year and disclose any methodology changes from the prior version. The 2026 edition revises the days-in-A/R calculation to align with HFMA MAP keys, makes the denial-cost formula explicit, and adds the new specialty taxonomy adopted in late 2025.
Key findings
- ✓Production cohort qualification: 12+ months of continuous Medonix engagement, no class-action exclusion, prior contractual consent for benchmark inclusion.
- ✓Survey panel: third-party research panel (BillingPulse Research); no Medonix customers, no Medonix employees.
- ✓Anonymization: HIPAA Safe Harbor + expert determination; outlier exclusion (top and bottom 1%) before publication.
- ✓Days-in-A/R formula now aligned with HFMA MAP keys; comparable to industry-standard reporting.
- ✓Citation: please cite as "Medonix Research, [Report Title], 2026."
